Gahada Gehn Yod ("Top of the Marsh") Nature Preserve

Waterfalls around every corner..
Directions No Site Visit Report

Gahada Preserve consists of a  steep forested hillside and vertical shale cliffs. Five streams cascade through the preserve and drain into Queen Catherine Marsh.

Because of the steepness of the hillside and the loose shales, the preserve has no trails.  The five streams that flow through the preserve are an important source of water for Queen Catherine Marsh.  The marsh, most of it owned by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, is an immense and beautiful wetland, across Rt. 14 from the preserve. The wetland supports a great variety of flora and fauna.
The preserve has a variety of ferns and flowering plants, for example, ebony spleenwort and purple-flowering raspberry.
