Nature Preserve Directions

We have one preserve which boasts a 140-foot waterfall in a deep gorge. We have another that is set aside as a research facility for the study of chemical ecology.

Directions to the Bahar Preserve:
Take Route 41 to New Hope. Turn east on Glen Haven Road, left on Carver Road, right on Apple Tree Point Road. Look for parking lot on left side of road. Walk down road about 1/4 mile to get to the preserve. Visit The Bahar Preserve Online

Directions to the Bishop Preserve:
The Bishop Nature Preserve is located in the town of Fayette, just east of the north end of Seneca Lake. From Geneva, go east on Route 5 and 20, then south on 96A. Take the first left, on West River Road. From Ithaca, take Route 96 north to Route 96A north. Take a right on West River Road (some maps show East River Road), just before the bridge over the barge canal. Drive a short distance until you see woods and the preserve sign on the left. Parking is on the grass near an abandoned shed. Visit The Bishop Preserve Online

Directions to the Ellis Hollow Preserve:
Take E State St. (Rt. 79 East) from Ithaca. Turn left on rt. 366, then leave it where it bears left, and continue straight on Mitchell St. -- Ellis Hollow Rd. After about 2.5 miles, turn left on Genung Rd., then right on Ellis Hollow Creek Rd. Very soon -- right after a small creek -- park off to the side of the road. The preserve entrance is just east of the stream, on the north side of the road. Visit The Ellis Hollow Preserve Online

Directions to the Etna Preserve:
From Ithaca, take Route 13N to Route 366N, heading towards Etna. The preserve is about 1 mile north of Route 13, before you get to the first intersection, and is located on both sides of the road. Large preserve signs mark the entrance. The portion on the west side of route 366 is opposite a cemetery and next to Fall Creek. It also has a parking area. On the east side of the road, the preserve wraps around the cemetery and extends southward along the road. Visit The Etna Preserve Online

Directions to the Goetchius Preserve:
The Goetchius Wetland Preserve is located on Flat Iron Road in the Town of Caroline. To get there from Ithaca, take Route 79 East to Flat Iron Road in the Town of Caroline. Turn left onto Flat Iron Road and go north for approximately 0.2 miles. The preserve starts on the left at the first stream that crosses under the road, and extends north to a large farm field. The southern, woodland portion of the preserve is located behind the houses and trailers on the left of Flat Iron Road and extends south to the cemetery along Route 79. Directions to the Great Hill Preserve:
From Rte. 5 & 20, east of Canandaigua Lake, turn left on Rte. 364 South. Continue on Rte. 364 to Middlesex. At the town center, turn right on Rte. 245 South. Continue 4.8 miles and turn right on Sunnyside Rd. Go over the West River for 0.4 miles and bear left at fork in the road. Go 0.4 miles to the next fork and bear right onto South Hill Rd. Go 0.7 miles up the hill to the entrance to the Great Hill Preserve, on left side of road.

From Naples, go north on Rte. 21 to Rte. 245 North (opposite Bob and Ruth's Restaurant). Turn right on Rte. 245 North and go 4.0 miles and turn left onto Sunnyside Road. Go over the West River for 0.4 miles and proceed as above.

From Woodville, go south on Rte. 21 for 1.7 mi. Take a left on Parish Rd. and go 0.8 mi. Turn left on Rte. 245 North. Go 2.2 miles and turn left on Sunnyside Rd. Go over the West River for 0.4 miles and proceed as above. Visit The Great Hill Preserve Online

Directions to the High Vista Preserve:
From Rt. 41 south of Skaneateles, turn onto Vincent Hill Road West, just north of the Cortland/Onondaga County line. After about 1/3 mile, the road bends to the southwest and there is a small parking area on the right-hand side. The preserve is on both the east (left) and west (right) sides of the road. On the east side, there is a large field in the bend of the road that is not part of the preserve. Visit The High Vista Preserve Online

Directions to the King Preserve:
From Route 79 southeast of Ithaca, go south (right) on Route 38 in Richford. Right after the village, at the "55 MPH" sign, turn right on Andersen Hill Road. This will make a right-angle turn to the west. About 0.3-mile up the hill, watch for the entrance--an old logging road--on the right. Visit The King Preserve Online

Directions to the Lindsay Parsons Biodiversity Preserve:
The Lindsay-Parsons Biodiversity Preserve is located in West Danby, about 8 miles away from Ithaca. Take Rt. 13 south from Ithaca, then take Rt. 34/96 south to West Danby. Most of the preserve is located on the east side of the highway, across from Sylvan Drive and the West Danby Fire Station. Ample parking is available about 1/2 mile south of Sylvan Drive, on the east side of the road. Entrance to the parking lot is at the top of a hill, opposite a house and barn. Directions to the Lower Nature Preserve:
Head west out of Ithaca on Route 79. Take a right at the flashing light in Enfield, onto Halseyville Road. Continue North on Halseyville Road about 2 miles. Turn left (west) onto Iradell Rd. Park off the road next to the first woods that you come to on the south side of the road. Look for Land Trust signs. Enjoy! Visit Lower Preserve Online

Directions to the Martin Nature Preserve:
The Martin Nature Preserve is located in Schuyler County in the Town of Catharine, north of Odessa. From Route 79 in Mecklenburg, take Route 228 South. Turn right off of Route 228 onto Steam Mill Road. Turn left onto Charles Road and park on the grass on the right, south of a trail entrance. Visit Martin Preserve Online

Directions to the McIlroy Bird Sanctuary:
Go east on Route 34B in Lansing, crossing Route 38 and continuing for 2 miles.Turn left on Salt Rd. Go about 6 mi. and turn right (east) on Route 90. Go about 2 mi. and turn left on Lake Como Rd. Go 2.7 mi. to Lane A, on right. Drive down lane to parking area, on the right, and follow path to trailhead. From Skaneateles, go south on Route 41A. Turn right on Branch Rd., left on Lake Como Rd. Left on Lane A, and proceed as above. Note that Lane A may be snowed in during winter. McIlroy Bird Sanctuary

Directions to the Parker Nature Preserve:
The Parker Nature Preserve is located in the town of Bath on Telegraph and Velie Roads. From the southern end of Seneca Lake at Watkins Glen, take route 28 west to Route 23. Take 23 and turn left on Route 226. Turn right soon after the Bradford School on Yawger Hill Road. Follow this road to the small village of Bradford, and turn left on Route 16 (Telegraph Road). A small sign says, "To Bath". From Telegraph Road, make a right onto Velie Road. The preserve is on the left with parking on the shoulder of the road. The trail entrance is marked by the green, "Parker Nature Preserve" sign. The trail becomes more obvious as one proceeds westward. Visit Parker Preserve Online

 

Directions to the Plymouth Woods Nature Preserve:
From Route 17 east of Elmira, take the Church St./Rt. 352 exit--Exit 56. Go through Elmira, and turn left on Rt. 225 (Hendy Creek Road). Go about 3 miles and turn right on Kneale Road. Go 0.4 miles to the preserve parking area, on your right

Directions to the Salmon Creek Bird Sanctuary
Take Rt. 34 N from Ithaca and turn left onto 34B. Turn right onto Ludlowville Rd. just after Lansing HS; preserve is located on West side of Salmon Creek Rd., in the vicinity of Brooks Hill Rd. No trails. Visit Salmon Creek Online

Directions to the Steege Hill Preserve
From route 17 in Big Flats, take exit 49. Turn south from the exit ramp and go to Olcott Rd. At T intersection, turn right on Rt. 64 (unmarked), and right again on Rt. 352. Turn left on So. Corning Rd., cross the river, and turn left on Steege Hill Rd. Go about 1 mile to the gate, on the left, just before the pipeline cut. Park on the shoulder of the road on the right, off the pavement. Directions to the Stevenson Nature Preserve:
The Stevenson Forest Preserve is located on Trumbull Corners Road, in the Town of Enfield. To get there from Ithaca, take Route 13 South to Route 327 North. Trumbull Corners Road is on the left, off of Route 327, and the Stevenson Preserve parking area is located approximately one half mile down the road on the right hand side. If you are coming from Route 79, west of Ithaca, take Route 327 South. At the curve to the southeast, turn right onto Trumbull Corners Road. The Stevenson Preserve parking area is located approximately 1/2 mile down the road, on the right. Visit Stevenson Preserve Online

Directions to the Sweedler Preserve at Lick Brook:
From Ithaca, take Rt. 13 South. Turn left on Sand Bank Rd., the first road past the entrance to Buttermilk Falls State Park. At the Y intersection, bear right on Town Line Rd. Directions to the Thurber Preserve

Directions to the Whitlock Preserve
From Ithaca, take Route 89 North to the town of Romulus. Preserve is on the east side of Rt. 89 about 1 mile north of Cayuga Lake Road and 1 1/2 miles north of Cayuga Ridge Winery. Pull off highway across from house #6374 and park just before the gate. . Visit Whitlock Preserve Online

Directions to the Wesley Hill Preserve
From Canandaigua, go west on Rt. 5 & 20, then south on Rt. 20A & Rt. 64. Stay on Rt. 20A going west. Just before the Village of Honeoye, go south on E. Lake Rd., then turn left on Pine Hill Rd. and then a right, following signs to the Cumming Nature Center. This road becomes Gulick Rd. Turn right on Wesley Hill Rd. Watch for the preserve parking area, on your right, one mile down the hill. Visit Wesley Hill Preserve Online
